Description:

This is an Employees-Only competition: You must be a current employee of the District of Saanich to be considered.

Gordon Head Recreation Centre is looking for an experienced and proactive Team Leader to support our aquatic programs. In this role, you will provide on-deck leadership to lifeguards and instructors, ensuring staff are following safety protocols, programs are running effectively, and facilities are properly set up and maintained. The Team Leader is expected to communicate with customers to provide a positive and inclusive experience, assist with staff scheduling and training, and lead instructional or lifeguarding activities during assigned shifts.

Requirements include completion of Grade 12; two years of lifeguarding experience, including two years of swim instruction; National Lifeguard (Pool) certification; Standard First Aid and CPR-C; and Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification. The Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification is considered an asset. Employment is subject to the provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last 6 months. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Responsibilities will include both teaching lessons and lifeguarding. Schedules are assigned seasonally by a supervisor and may change based on operational needs. The position requires a minimum commitment of 14 hours per week, with a target of 20 hours per week where operationally feasible.
