The Planning Department is seeking an experienced and motivated planning professional to join our Current Planning Division. The division is responsible for reviewing development applications and advancing planning policy implementation through current development. We are looking for a Planning Analyst to support this important work. This is one position, and the final classification (Planning Analyst I or II) will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
The Planning Analyst I or II will perform a range of planning work in support of land use, housing, and development application review. The successful candidate will provide research and analysis, support community engagement efforts, and contribute to written reports and presentations. The role may include working closely with other departments, community stakeholders and the public to advance planning goals and policies.
Requirements include:
Planning Analyst I:
- A master’s degree in planning, Landscape Architecture or Architecture, or current enrollment in an accredited planning program.
- A minimum of three months of relevant experience in planning research, data analysis, or public engagement. This experience may include extracurricular, volunteer, or academic work.
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Planning Analyst II:
- A master’s degree in planning or a related discipline such as Geography, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in planning, preferably in a municipal context.
- Demonstrated experience with GIS and design software such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or 3D modelling tools.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
