The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.
You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and knowledge sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.
G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre is hiring experienced and enthusiastic Instructor IIs to plan and lead Jump Rope Basics programs for children and youth. These classes introduce participants to the fundamentals of skipping, rhythm, coordination, and fitness through fun and engaging instruction. Instructors are responsible for planning and leading sessions, preparing and maintaining equipment, ensuring a safe environment, and fostering a positive experience for all participants.
Requirements include completion of Grade 10; at least three months of experience leading recreational or instructional programs; Emergency First Aid and CPR-C; and a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) no older than 6 months. The ideal candidate will be flexible and inclusive, with strong interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate and support youth of varying skill levels, and a passion for promoting active lifestyles. Previous experience or certification in Jump Rope instruction is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, after school, evenings, and weekends; hours and schedules are subject to change based on program needs. These programs are delivered at Colquitz Middle School and coordinated through G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre. As a component of the selection process, testing may be conducted. While we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
