Description:

The District of Saanich’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs. You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and knowledge sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.

The Recreation Division at Gordon Head Recreation Centre is looking for a friendly, responsible, and community-minded Facility Host to support the safe and welcoming operation of recreation spaces. In this role, you will act as the first point of contact for groups using the facility, ensuring access, monitoring safe use of spaces, supporting instructors, and contributing to a positive customer experience. We are seeking someone who enjoys interacting with the public, is attentive to safety, and represents Saanich with professionalism and courtesy.

As a Facility Host, you will review facility schedules, open and close program spaces, assist instructors with room setup and cleanup, monitor public access, identify hazards, and contact appropriate staff or authorities when needed. You will provide minor first aid, support emergency procedures, maintain a clean and safe environment, and uphold facility policies and procedures. This role requires exercising good judgement, maintaining positive relations with user groups, and responding calmly and effectively to issues that arise.

Requirements include completion of Grade 10 and a minimum of two months of experience working in a public service role within a recreation facility. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) no older than 6 months, with renewal required as per policy. Emergency First Aid and CPR-C are required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, clear communication, and a commitment to excellent customer service.

The successful candidate(s) will be working Thursdays from 6:15 to 8:15 pm or Saturdays from 12:15 to 2:15 pm. Please apply only if you are available and willing to work during any of these times. We thank all applicants for applying; only those under consideration will be contacted.
