As an Engineering Technician V, you will lead the charge in orchestrating complex, multi-disciplinary transportation endeavors at a semi-professional level. The role encompasses:
- Steering project scoping, developing preliminary and detailed design plans.
- Drafting accurate cost estimates and comprehensive tender documents.
- Coordinating and attending field inspections and engaging collaboratively with both internal departments and external partners.
- Evaluating development applications and imparting strategic guidance to consultants.
- Mentoring junior staff.
- Serving as a division representative at public meetings and open houses.
This role is for seasoned technicians who possess not only a robust portfolio in project management but also stellar communication skills and an unwavering zeal for developing transportation systems that are safe, sustainable, and accessible to all.
The preferred candidate will be well-experienced in the construction of new transportation assets and the renewal of existing infrastructure including surface infrastructure, bridges, and traffic signals. Strong knowledge of MMCD contracts will be favoured, particularly if they have used those contracts while acting as the Contract Administrator or Owner’s Representative. Adeptness in producing 3D road designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D will be helpful when reviewing consultant submissions for compliance with municipal standards.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; a minimum of six years of directly related experience (eight years preferred); registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; proficiency in computer-based engineering applications; a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence; and the ability to conduct field inspections. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off).
