The District of Saanich is seeking a Certified Carpenter to join our Public Works team. This position performs skilled tradesperson work at the journeyman level in support of the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal infrastructure and facilities.
The successful candidate will have proficiency in framing, forming, placing and finishing concrete, as well as constructing and maintaining infrastructure such as bridges, barriers, sidewalks, vaults, manholes and chambers. The role also includes work on building structures, culvert installations, excavation shoring to WorkSafe standards, and reading and interpreting construction drawings.
This position will direct and train staff, establish grades and layouts, and support multiple Public Works sections. We are looking for a team-oriented individual who demonstrates sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
Requirements include minimum grade 12 or equivalent; Certificate of Qualification and Certificate of Apprenticeship in Carpentry; four years of field experience including the Apprenticeship experience and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
