Do you have a passion for protecting the urban forest while helping the district to address the housing shortage? The Parks Division is seeking an experienced Arboriculture Inspector to conduct field and office work pertaining to trees on private and public property. The Arboriculture Inspector ensures proposed development activities and tree removal permit requests meet the requirements of the Tree Protection Bylaw (Bylaw) by reviewing applications, issuing permits and enforcing the Bylaw. The ideal candidate will have in-depth expertise regarding trees, and how to mitigate impacts to trees during construction activities. This position will benefit from an applicant’s proven communication skills to uphold the spirit and intent of the Urban Forestry Strategy while ensuring proposed outcomes are safe and feasible.
Qualified candidates will have a two-year diploma in arboriculture or horticulture from a recognized college or university and three years of progressive experience in Urban Forestry and/or administration of a Tree Bylaw; certificate from the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist; I.S.A. Certified Tree Risk Assessor Qualification and possession of a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence. The successful candidate will also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and competency using a GIS system. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, between 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (40 hours a week).
