District of Saanich Intelligent Community Initiative
The District of Saanich has a goal of becoming an Intelligent Community as designated by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a global network of over 200 cities with a think tank at its centre. ICF works with communities to leverage information and communications technology to foster inclusive prosperity, address social and governance challenges, and enhance quality of life. Intelligent communities prioritize digital literacy, broadband infrastructure, and a focus on developing a skilled workforce, leading to more sustainable and resilient communities. An intelligent community initiative for Saanich would provide foundational support for the District’s 2023–2027 Council Strategic Plan, and key supporting policies, plans and strategies such as the Economic Development Strategy, Housing Strategy, OCP and Climate Plan, which aim to build a connected and resilient community with economic diversification and resilience.
We are currently working towards formulating an Intelligent Community Task Force to regularily meet and create an Initiative roadmap for Saanich, as well as joining the small group of other global leading communities to become a Certified Intelligent Community.
