Temporary closure of the steam room at Gordon Head Recreation Centre
June 25, 2026
The steam room at Gordon Head Recreation Centre is temporarily closed for renovations and will remain closed until further notice.
During the facility’s annual maintenance closure, staff commissioned an engineering assessment of the steam room to help inform a full rebuild project that had been anticipated and was scheduled for 2027.
That assessment identified conditions that require immediate structural repair and renovation work. Accordingly, the District plans to begin the rebuild process earlier than anticipated, resulting in the closure of the steam room until further notice.
This closure affects the steam room only. The general pool area, hot tub, and sauna remain open, and there is no other impact on pool operations.
We recognize this may be disappointing for regular steam room users, and we appreciate your patience as this important work moves forward.
Gordon Head Recreation Centre will reopen after its annual maintenance closure on Monday, June 29, 2026; however, the steam room will remain closed.
We look forward to sharing more information as it becomes available. Please stay tuned to the HelloSaanich project page for updates.
