Saanich, BC – Advance voter turnout totalled 10,031 ballots cast in the District of Saanich following three days of advance voting opportunities at four different locations.

Advance voting opportunities were held October 7, 13 and 14 at numerous locations across Saanich. A similar advance voting schedule was offered in 2022 with a total of 6,528 residents casting their vote prior to the general local election day.

In Saanich’s 2022 general local election the total voter turnout was 31.22 per cent.

“After three full days of advanced voting, I am pleased with the elector turnout,” said Chief Election Officer Angila Bains. “Saturday will be the last day for voters to cast their ballots and I encourage you all to head to the polls and exercise your democratic right to vote. Our goal is to increase the voter turnout in municipal elections, so I hope to see you all at the polls on October 17.”

What to expect on General Voting Day

On Saturday, there will be 16 polling stations across Saanich, and all will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

New for this election is information about polling location wait times available at saanich.ca/electionwait. This page will be updated every half hour to provide electors with up-to-date information to help guide them towards a smooth and efficient voting experience.

Please remember not to take photos of, post or share images of your marked or unmarked ballot on social media. Every voter takes a solemn declaration to protect the secrecy of the ballot. Please protect the privacy and integrity of your vote—and encourage others to do the same.

Mail-in ballots

The District of Saanich is receiving and processing mail ballot requests as expected.

To ensure ballots are received on time, Saanich electors are encouraged to return their completed mail ballot as soon as possible by using the District’s ballot drop-off mailbox or by bringing it directly to the Legislative Services office on the second floor of Saanich Municipal Hall.

Completed mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, to be counted.

Once an elector has applied for a mail ballot, they are no longer eligible to vote at an in-person voting location
