Saanich, BC – Short-term rentals are currently prohibited in all zones and housing types. However, the District of Saanich will soon be regulating short-term rentals (STRs).
Through Housing Strategy Action 7.1, staff have been reviewing short-term rental regulations in the context of new provincial legislation and enforcement tools. Staff recently presented some options to Council that consider the need for long-term rental housing while balancing supplementary income opportunities for homeowners.
Council considered options for regulating short-term rentals at the April 27, June 15, and July 6 Council meetings. Upon reviewing and considering these options, Council has now directed staff to develop bylaws for the regulation of STRs for up to 120 nights per property, per year. It is anticipated that this work will come to Council in early 2027.
The new regulations will not come into effect until Council adopts the bylaws. Please stay tuned to the Short-Term Rentals page for future updates.
