Saanich residents asked to conserve water during CRD water main repairs
October 23, 2026
Saanich, BC – The Capital Regional District (CRD) is asking Royal Oak, Broadmead and Cordova Bay residents and businesses to reduce non-essential water use while the Capital Regional District (CRD) repairs a leak on a regional water supply main near Thetis Lake.
The CRD-owned supply main runs alongside the Trans-Canada Highway near Thetis Lake and supplies water to parts of Saanich, as well as communities farther north on the Saanich Peninsula. While repairs are underway, residents in West Saanich, Knockan Hill, Royal Oak, Prospect Lake and other parts of northwest Saanich may experience lower-than-usual water pressure.
Saanich is supporting the CRD to redirect water to some areas normally served by this supply main. This will help maintain water service locally and support the continued delivery of water to communities on the Saanich Peninsula.
Every litre saved will help. Residents and businesses across Saanich are urged to temporarily limit non-essential water use during peak demand periods – in the morning and early evening – until repairs are complete. Please turn off irrigation systems and consider running dishwashers and laundry machines outside of peak demand periods, taking shorter morning showers and turning off the tap while brushing teeth.
Repair work is expected to take place from October 26 to approximately October 31.
The District is coordinating with the CRD and monitoring the situation. Updates on repair work, anticipated further impacts and a resolution date will be shared as information becomes available.
