Construction alert – Rutledge Park splash pad
April 24, 2026
News Item
Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is notifying Rutledge Park visitors about some upcoming construction work at the splash pad in advance of it opening for the season.
Starting Monday, April 27, 2026, the splash pad area will be closed off and inaccessible to the public. Workers will be on-site to make a few adjustments to improve the system that was installed in 2025 to ensure water entering the stormwater system is safe for aquatic life downstream.
In addition to the closure of the splash pad area, the adjacent lawn and planting area to the south will be fenced off for the public’s safety. The public washrooms will remain open. The main pedestrian entry into the park off Scotia Street will be closed at times, with temporary detours around the site. Park users should watch out for construction vehicles coming in and out of the site, and note any temporary trail closures and/or detours during the construction period.
Once the splash pad is open, crews will return to test chlorine levels and fine-tune the system for a number of weeks. This work is not expected to disrupt the enjoyment of the splash pad once it opens for the summer season – details on that coming soon!
