Underground utility upgrades take shape in the Tillicum Burnside neighbourhood
November 7, 2025
Saanich, BC – Construction begins today to replace the existing storm drains and sanitary sewer drains on Wascana Street, Maddock Avenue West and surrounding side streets.
This project will be completed in two phases. The first phase, starting today, will replace storm and sanitary drains and will run through spring 2026; the second phase will replace watermains, with dates and schedule to be released in early 2026.
The scope of this project will cause traffic impacts, including road closures and altered traffic patterns. Pedestrian, local traffic and emergency vehicle access will be maintained. The District asks residents to please follow all signage and directions in the area, and plan alternate routes when possible.
Traffic impacts:
- Road closure: in effect for Wascana Street (from Maddock Avenue West to Burnside Road West) during construction hours. Resident access will be maintained during construction. Please follow signage and direction of traffic personnel.
- Single lane alternating traffic: in effect for Maddock Avenue West, Qu’appelle Street and Davin Street during construction.
- Expected construction: weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Friday, November 7, 2025 to Friday, March 27, 2026.
- After-hours and weekend access: Wascana Street, Maddock Avenue West, Qu’Appelle Street and Davin Street will be open overnight (4 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays) and 24/7 on weekends.
Why are we doing this?
