Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich celebrates Lindsay Chase, Director of Planning, RPP, FCIP, for her designation as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners (FCIP), Canada’s highest honour for planning professionals.

The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) inducted Chase into its esteemed College of Fellows for her outstanding and sustained contributions to the planning profession, locally and nationally.

Chase has been with the District for almost three years, where she’s led many planning initiatives including championing the rapid deployment of non-market housing and implementation bylaws, with results already being seen including several projects in pre-application, development permit application and building permit stage. She shared that mentorship has played a huge role in her career success and growth.

“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside passionate community members, elected officials, fellow planners, builders and developers, and other professionals who all help make our plans a reality. The collaborative nature of planning and the team effort that is needed is what really drives my work,” said Chase.

Chase also noted the adoption of the District’s updated Official Community Plan and making process improvements with her planning team are highlights of her time at the District so far.

“It is an honour to have Lindsay and her expertise leading the way for Saanich’s future growth. Her passion and dedication are a driving force behind reaching the goals in Saanich’s Official Community Plan and building an exciting vision for the future. Her commitment to community well-being, fostering livability, and District-wide planning is evident in the work she does,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock.

In addition to her contributions at the District, Chase has served as President of the Planning Institute of B.C., Vice President and Board Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and is currently serving on the Professional Conduct Review Committee for the Registered Professional Planners in B.C. Chase has also been a professor at Vancouver Island University for the past 10 years. She has taught courses on research methods, planning in local government and her favourite course, planning theory and ethics. She’s an ongoing mentor to individuals who are going through the process to become a registered planner with Registered Professional Planners in B.C.
