Saanich, BC – In celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Week, the Saanich Emergency Program (SEP) proudly acknowledges the outstanding contributions of its volunteers who have dedicated themselves tirelessly to serving our community over the past year.

 

 Their commitment and hard work have made a significant impact on the lives of many Saanich residents, strengthening community resilience and safety.

2024 SEP volunteer highlights: 

• Emergency Support Services (ESS): Our ESS volunteers provided crucial support to over 63 evacuated residents, activating reception centres during significant structure fires to ensure safety and refuge.

 

• Community Preparedness: Dedicated Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness volunteers delivered close to forty presentations virtually and in-person, reaching hundreds of community members and enhancing their emergency readiness.

• Youth Engagement: Volunteers packed over a thousand grab-and-go bags for grade 4 students, providing them with vital emergency preparedness tools and knowledge.

• Volunteer Commitment: The team collectively contributed over 3,600 volunteer hours, engaged with residents at 17 community events, and maintained essential emergency kiosks located across our four recreation centres.

 

• Provincial Leadership: Saanich's ESS volunteers were recognized provincially for their exceptional capability, providing remote mutual aid to evacuees across the province, showcasing their leadership in emergency support services.

We are deeply grateful for our volunteers' dedication and passion. Their efforts not only support those in immediate need but also foster a more prepared and resilient community.
