No place to park? Saanich again offers drive-thru property tax pay station

June 13, 2025

Information Bulletin
For immediate release

Saanich, BC – To enhance convenience and accessibility for residents who have expressed concerns about the lack of parking at Saanich Municipal Hall (770 Vernon Avenue), the District of Saanich will be opening a drive-thru property tax payment station, starting Monday.

This service has been offered during peak payment periods in previous years, and will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays between June 16 and July 2, excluding July 1 due to the statutory holiday.

How does it work?

Cheques are the only accepted method of payment. To submit payment, residents must place cheques in a sealed envelope, drive up to the white tent located at the back steps to the Municipal Hall entrance, and drop off their payments with the security guard standing there.

If you are considering mailing a cheque to pay your property taxes, please note that there is a potential of a Canada Post labour disruption, therefore paying at the drive-thru property tax station may be a great alternative option.

How else can I pay?

There are many ways to pay your property taxes. The District of Saanich encourages residents to use one of the payment methods below:

  • Online banking: Online banking is encouraged. You can pay through your financial institution’s online banking system. Check their local cut-off time to ensure payment is received by the due date.
  • In person at the Municipal Hall: Bring your tax notice and payment to the Municipal Hall between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

You can pay by (credit cards are not accepted):

    • Cash
    • Debit: Check with your card provider to see if you have a daily limit.
    • Cheque: Make your cheque payable to District of Saanich. Dishonoured cheques constitute non-payment of taxes and will be subject to penalty, interest, and a $20.00 service charge.
  • Drop box: Residents also have the option to drop off their payment and tax stub to the unmanned drop box located left of the main entrance doors. There is a secure slot at the entrance of the Municipal Hall. This entrance can be accessed off the parking lot. The drop box is available 24/7 for non-cash payments. Ensure payment is received in the drop box before midnight on July 2, 2025.
  • Visit your bank: Make sure to get proof of on-time payment (with date and time). Please contact your financial institution for hours of operation and local cut-off times.
  • By Mail: Mail your cheque and bottom portion of your tax notice to 770 Vernon Avenue, Victoria, BC V8X 2W7. Payment must be received by July 2, 2025, to avoid penalty. Make your cheque payable to District of Saanich.

When do I have to pay by?

Property taxes are due July 2, 2025. A 5% penalty will be applied to unpaid current taxes after July 2, 2025. An additional 5% penalty will be applied after September 2, 2025. Unclaimed home owner grants are considered to be unpaid taxes and are subject to penalty.
