Information Bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC – A revised Draft Quadra McKenzie Plan (QMP) has been received by Saanich Council and will go back to the public for further input this fall.
Key revisions that respond to public input and the direction provided by Council back in February include:
- Reducing the intensity of land use designations by:
- Reducing the number of properties designated as Corridor (6-storeys), primarily in Quadra North;
- Scaling back building heights and the area covered by Corridor Hubs; and
- Re-designating more parcels as Urban Townhome and Apartment (3 to 4-storeys).
- Removing design concepts for vehicle travel lanes on McKenzie Avenue, to be considered separately through a future process in collaboration with BC Transit.
The revised Draft Plan also contains a number of other proposed changes, some of which respond to public and stakeholder input received in earlier phases. Others are the result of further technical analysis by staff, and are aimed at reducing duplication and improving alignment with the Official Community Plan and other District documents.
An additional round of public engagement will be launched to gather feedback on the revised Draft Plan. It’s anticipated Phase 4 engagement will run from August to October 2025. A combination of in-person and online engagement tools will be used to share the revised Draft Plan and gather feedback from the public and stakeholders. Detailed information on these engagement activities will be shared on our website and on HelloSaanich once finalized.
The QMP presents a vision for the next 20-30 years and lays the foundation for creating healthy communities that feature a diversity of housing options, active transportation infrastructure, vibrant public spaces, and services and amenities within walking distance for residents.
