Grade 4 student Oskar Williams selected as Holiday Card contest winner

Saanich, BC – The results are in – the District of Saanich is pleased to announce Oskar Williams, a grade 4 student in Saanich, has won the annual Mayor and Council Holiday Card contest. Congratulations, Oskar!  

After sorting through dozens of creative and thoughtful submissions at Municipal Hall, Mayor Murdock was impressed with Oskar’s attention to detail and incorporation of Saanich’s official bird, the Great Horned Owl.  

“Oskar did a marvelous job drawing the Great Horned Owl and adding a holiday twist. I love the Santa Hat, all the bright colours, and the owl’s recognizable large yellow eyes! Each young artist should be very proud of what they created this year. The thoughtfulness and creativity that went into each submission shines brightly! I look forward to seeing what next year brings.”  

Each of the submissions showcased what children in Saanich love most about the holidays including penguins, presents, ice skating, snow angels and Santa Claus.  

The District thanks everyone who participated including students, teachers, educators, parents and caregivers for supporting this fun annual tradition.  

The winning design will be featured on Mayor and Council’s holiday card and shared on District social media channels.  

We look forward to welcoming Oskar to the Hall in the new year to join Mayor Murdock as “Mayor for the Morning!”
