Discoloured water in Cedar Hill X Road area - tap water is safe to consume

November 14, 2025

The District's flushing program activities and valve closures have caused discoloured water in the Cedar Hill Cross Road area between Blenkinsop Road and Cedar Hill Road.

Saanich staff are currently flushing the area to clear up the water.

The water is safe to drink and remains potable. The discolouration is an aesthetic issue which makes the water unpalatable for consuming.

Next steps

Once staff have completed the flushing of the watermain by flowing fresh water through the piping to exchange the water and remove the discoloured water, homeowners will still see discoloured water until they flush their water line from the watermain to their house.

Best practice for doing this is to use a fixture like your bathtub or hosebib to flush out the line as they do not have a screen that can trap any debris and could become clogged.

For more information, please visit saanich.ca or email publicworks@saanich.ca. The District encourages all residents to sign-up to receive notifications for when flushing activities are taking place in their neighbourhood.

Thank you for your ongoing patience as staff address the issue.
