May 21 to 27, 2023 is National Public Works Week!

May 23, 2023

May 21 to 27, 2023 is National Public Works Week! Public works helps keep our community strong by providing an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater, public buildings and spaces, parks, and solid waste. Join us in celebrating the quiet work these professionals do that makes life better for all of us.

Public works is the thread that connects us all, no matter where we live in the world. Every public works professional strives to improve the quality of life for the community they serve, leading to healthier, happier communities. While we all appreciate the work they do every day, Public Works Week is a chance to officially celebrate their dedication and commitment.

Each year we interview a few staff members from different sections. This year you can learn about a day in the life of a fleet parts guru, what goes into parks maintenance, what a tandem operator does, and how a traffic signal technician keeps us all safe. You can find these and more information on our hard-working staff at saanich.ca/publicworks.

This year, the theme is Connecting the World Through Public Works! Reminding us that our teams are always ready to serve their community, and connected to everything we do as we live, work, and play in Saanich!

Thanks, Public Works! You are at the heart of Saanich – from roads and transportation to healthy drinking water and sanitation. Public works is there!
