Upcoming closure of the Lochside Trail for sloughing repairs

The District of Saanich in partnership with the CRD will be undertaking repairs to the Lochside Trail slope between Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue. The scope of work includes excavation of the sloughed trail portion, stabilizing the creek bed, rebuilding the slope, and new pavement in the affected area.

A storm event in the winter of 2020 resulted in the sloughing of this portion of the trail. Emergency remedial work was done in 2020 and 2021 to avoid further impacts to the existing culvert and slope, however complete restoration will occur with this work.

Construction impacts and detour information

During construction, work will take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. There will be a full trail closure with alternative detours provided. The detour will be set up for the entire duration of the project. The pedestrian detour will be along Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue, with the cyclists detour directed through Reynolds Road and Borden Street. The two north bound lanes on Quadra Street will be reduced to one lane to accommodate the cyclist detour for the duration of the project

Project timeline

Due to the environmental sensitivity of the Creek area, the in-stream works will be scheduled in the fisheries window starting mid-August up until mid-September. The surface works could continue into October, updates will be posted at saanich.ca/projects.
