Saanich’s Remembrance Day ceremony broadcast on Facebook Live

Saanich, BC – Saanich’s 2020 Remembrance Day ceremony is closed to the public in order to comply with the provincial health orders limiting events to 50 people or less. However, there’s still an opportunity to watch the event via Facebook Live.

“Recognizing the great sacrifice by those remarkable families of the day in Saanich and across Canada, it’s so important for us to pause in remembrance for the Canadians who have served and died for our country,” said Mayor Fred Haynes. “Although residents can’t attend our ceremony in person this year, I encourage you to join us online in remembrance of those gave their lives for our future. Residents may also consider spending time walking along Memorial Avenue on Shelbourne to view the interpretive signage and sign toppers from the Street of Unfinished Dreams project.”

There will be a limited number of wreathes presented, but otherwise the ceremony will be similar to previous years except without an audience. Groups that would like to lay a wreath will have a designated time following the ceremony. If your organization would like to lay a wreath, please contact Community Event Specialist Rob Phillips.

Watch the livestream
