Roadway improvements along Haliburton Road now complete

Saanich, BC – Roadway improvements were recently completed along Haliburton Road from the Pat Bay Highway to Wesley Road, creating a safer and more convenient route for all users. This work completes short-term cycling and pedestrian improvement priorities established in Council’s Active Transportation Plan.

“These improvements are just one piece of the puzzle to improve commuting, walking and travel through the area,” said Mayor Fred Haynes. “By working together with the community, consultants and staff, we were able to deliver substantial improvements that will be felt throughout the community for years to come.”

These improvements and benefits include:

• Pedestrian improvements to the existing sidewalk
• Crosswalk improvements
• Cycling facilities from Pat Bay Highway to Wesley Road
• New sidewalks and accessible ramps
• Bus stop improvements
• Full repaving of Haliburton Road from the Pat Bay Highway to Wesley Road
• Concrete curb and gutter
• Filling in existing ditches

Two phase project

This was the final work of a two phase roadway and drainage improvement project which fulfills key policies identified in the District’s Official Community Plan.

• Phase 1 included bus stop improvements to the Northbound bus stop on the Pat Bay, north of Haliburton Road. A sidewalk was installed from the bus stop to the northeast corner of the intersection. This also focused on storm drain installation and drainage improvements on Haliburton Road from Haliburton Place to Wesley Road.
• Phase 2 saw sidewalk improvements connecting the Phase 1 sidewalk to the existing sidewalk at Haliburton Terrace as well as cycling facilities from Pat Bay Highway to Wesley Road and the paving recently completed.
