Date & Time: November 4, 2023 (10:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Category: Saanich Community Events (See all events in this category)

You're invited to get hands-on and join us on Tree Appreciation Day, November 4. You can help restore and enhance a former Garry Oak Restoration Project (GORP) site along Mahon Brook in Colquitz Park. We'll be working along the trail heading east towards Brydon Park, at the south end of Harder Rd. (map: TAD 2023 Site Map.pdf)

This Tree Appreciation Day, help us grow Saanich's urban forest by increasing the number of trees planted on Municipal lands (parks and boulevards) within our neighbourhoods.

No registration is required to attend this free event. Equipment will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own work gloves and a shovel if preferred. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. All ages and abilities welcome, no experience necessary.

How to get here

  • By BC Transit: exit the 6. 31 or 32 bus at West Saanich 4392 Block and follow the walking path west through Brydon Park.
  • By car: find street parking along Viewmont Ave.
  • By bike: access via the Colquitz River Trail. A bike rack is available in Brydon Park.

For this project, we will be planting a variety of trees native to Canada and this region including, but not limited to:

  • Garry Oak
  • Big Leaf Maple
  • Trembling Aspen
  • Black Hawthorn
  • Serviceberry

We will also have several hundred shrub and herbaceous plants at the event to extend the native meadow restoration that was started last year.
