Donna Dubock
June 26 – July 29. 2024

About the Artwork
My work is influenced by the countries & spaces I have lived in throughout my life, which include U.K Italy Spain Australia and of course Canada. I regularly sail around these magical islands always accompanied by my art supplies. My shoreline studio is surrounded by the comings and goings of wildlife which also find their way into my paintings. Most of my work is abstract mixed media on canvas and paper but always with a touch of realism to it. I believe that art making is a lifelong process and so I continue to take different courses and try new techniques to enable my work to stay fresh and exciting.

About the Artist
Born in Dorset U.K. Donna first became interested in art at school. She studied at the Art Institute in Bournemouth. Her career and subsequent studies took her into Health and Social care which she worked in for 20 years. In 2014 Donna moved to B.C after purchasing a sailboat on Granville Island. Following this move she was now able to finally dedicate more time to feed her painting appetite. Donna has studied with Simon Warne taken encaustic, abstract workshops and has followed online courses with landscape artist Terrill Welch. Donna works from hr studio “The Villa” at the waters edge in Village Bay Mayne Island.

Victoria Women’s Transition House Society
June 26 – July 29. 2024

About the Artwork:
The Victoria Women’s Transition House 50+ program is happy to share their photovoice project in the gallery space.  Photos and narratives will be on display in the upper gallery space at Saanich Municipal Hall.

Photography is a powerful tool for documenting life, telling stories and sharing experiences through a lens. This is PhotoVoice, a new Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) 50+ program where, over an eight-week period, participants were empowered and encouraged to express their personal voice through photography. Each piece was created by someone who has experienced intimate partner violence.

The theme for this project is “What does HOME mean to you?” and supports clients to explore this idea individually and together as a group. The result is this photo exhibit, complete with a personal narrative about each piece, photographed and created by individual VWTH clients.
