About the Artists and Exhibitions
François Michaud taught sculpture and drawing at the École des Beaux-Arts, Sète, France for 30 years. Throughout his career, he has traveled to many countries; he is now a Canadian citizen and lives in Victoria where he has his workshop. Francois Michaud’s artistic approach is focussed on the trilogy of man, animal and nature, and on the interaction of these three components depicted with humor and narration.
I am a Victoria-based artist mostly working in watercolour. Often inspiration for techniques, colours, or animals comes from things I dream and they just need to come alive on paper. I find this best described as Van Gogh simply put it, “I dream my paintings, then I paint my dreams.” Of course, Victoria has no shortage of inspiring landscapes and like most local artists I’ll paint the spectacular views around our island. My paintings are done with watercolour, gouache, and sometimes ink, on 140 lb watercolour paper of varying sizes.
