About the Artists and Exhibitions

Karen Guibault
Karen Guilbault is from Victoria, BC and has been a prolific painter for most of her adult life, beginning with watercolor, and continuing with acrylics, both on paper and canvas. An avid paddler and camper, Karen is inspired by nature, photographing scenery and birds for her paintings.
She often paints realistic birds or landscapes on an abstract background. She stares at the abstract shapes until she “finds” a bird there, and then brings it to life. In recent years, she has embraced mixed media in the form of fluid acrylic pouring, lino-block prints, and collaged papers. These are superimposed onto her acrylic paintings. Karen loves paddleboarding on Thetis Lake, where she photographed water lilies for the current painting series.

Saanich Archives
This Remembrance Day exhibition will feature historical photographs, documents and artifacts to illustrate the role of Saanich residents in armed conflicts of the 20th century
both oversees and at home. The exhibition focuses on the stories of municipal employees and ordinary residents whose lives were affected by conflict or who contributed to the war effort.

Richard Charter

Richard Charter is composer and visual artist. Richard received a Master's in Music Composition from the University of Victoria in 2020, and a BMus in piano performance from Ambrose University in 2015. As a composer, Richard’s music takes its creative impetus from visual art, in much the same way that his visual art is inspired by music. His work unifies principles of craft, aesthetics, sound, and geometry.
