Social Media Use

Overview

The District of Saanich uses social media as an extension of our presence on the web. Social media account(s) are public and are not hosted on District of Saanich servers. Users who choose to interact with Saanich via social media should read the terms of service and privacy policies of these third-party service providers and those of any applications used to access them.

Monitoring

Our social media accounts are monitored during business hours 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. In the event of an emergency, please call 9-1-1 or (250) 475-5599 for after-hours Parks emergencies.

Content

Our goal is to use social media to help inform the public about Saanich activities and initiatives, as well as to share community information that may be useful. Retweets, “Likes” and shares of external content does not imply endorsement by the District of Saanich. 

Following/Followers

We follow social accounts that are relevant to our work and our mandate.  This could include accounts belonging to individuals as well as organizations, public and private. Our decision to follow a particular person or group does not imply an endorsement of any kind.

Commenting

We will attempt to respond to questions posed via social media in the most practical manner possible – this may include responding in the same channel, sending a direct message or requesting to follow up via email or telephone should the matter require a longer answer. Personal information shared by an individual will only be used for responding to the original query.

Comments that are offensive, rude or abusive are not welcome. We discourage the use of web links in comments because they present a risk of inappropriate or unwanted material, spam, and malware. We reserve the right to delete comments that fail to meet this community standard.
