It's National Public Works Week!

May 16, 2022

What do pipes, trucks, parks, broken water mains, greener garbage, waterways, playgrounds and all things in between have in common? Public Works!

May 15 to 21, 2022 is National Public Works Week! While COVID-19 has brought us all some challenges, we have also seen just how important public works is to our staff and the community.

Throughout this pandemic, public works has kept Saanich going strong while adapting to physical distancing guidelines and new health and safety measures. While we all appreciate the teams every day, Public Works Week is a chance to officially celebrate their dedication and commitment.

Each year we interview a few staff members from different sections. This year you can learn about a day in the life of an Arborist, what it’s like to be down in a 20 foot hole, the observations of a yard waste drop-off attendant and the importance of a simple but effective tool, the crescent wrench. You can find these and more information on our hard-working staff at saanich.ca/publicworks.

This year, the theme is “Ready and Resilient”. Reminding us that our teams are always READY to serve their communities, and RESILIENT as ever in their abilities to pick themselves up after encountering challenges.

Thanks, public works! You are at the heart of Saanich – from roads and transportation to healthy drinking water and sanitation. Public works is there!
