Laura Ciarniello, Director of Corporate Services and Rebecca Chow, Occupational Health and Safety Manager accept the BCMSA Organizational Safety Excellence Award from Mayor Fred Haynes.

 

Saanich recognized for safety excellence

Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich has been awarded the Organizational Safety Excellence Award at the BC Municipal Safety Association’s 2021 annual awards celebration. The award recognizes local governments for activities that reduce injuries, illness, disease and fatalities.

“Organizational excellence is a key goal in Saanich’s strategic plan and I’m proud we have been recognized for this achievement,” said Director of Corporate Services Laura Ciarniello. “We are thankful to the BC Municipal Safety Association for their support of local governments in BC.”

The BC Municipal Safety Association shared that Saanich has demonstrated a great example of leadership, dedication and hard work in reducing the costs of claims by creating a safer and healthier workplace and helping injured workers recover and return to work.

This award reinforces all Saanich staff are part of the District’s journey to achieving excellence, especially in the areas of health and safety. Every employee plays a vital role in not only preventing injury and illness, but also focusing on how to improve health and safety for all every day.

“Our organization is committed to a culture of safety and our workforce is very committed to their own health and safety, and that of their colleagues.” said Occupational Health and Safety Manager Rebecca Chow. “We all work hard to ensure our work days end with staff home safely.” 

The BC Municipal Safety Association is a non-profit society which aims to improve worker health and safety and enhance safety culture through the sharing of knowledge and resources.
