New Animal Bylaws

Saanich’s new Animals Bylaw is now in place and this kicks off an education and transition period that will give Saanich staff and CRD enforcement officers time to inform park visitors about the coming changes.

During this transition period, people will begin to see updated signage in Saanich parks, and periodic updates posted to the Saanich website and on our social media channels.

The new bylaws are briefly outlined here [PDF - 655 KB] with full details here. [PDF - 8 MB]

Signage

On April 16, Council approved the budget for several initiatives under the People, Pets and Parks Strategy, pending Financial Plan Bylaw adoption - which is coming soon.

If you've been curious about the progress of updating park signage in accordance with the amended Animal Bylaw (2004, No. 8556), we're delighted to offer a sneak peek at the concepts our team has been working on. While these signs are still in the finalization stage, their distinctive and innovative design is sure to make them stand out.

Due to the volume of signs, we plan to produce and install them in phases beginning with these locations:

  • Sport Courts
  • Sport Fields
  • Playgrounds
  • Signature Parks (Beckwith, Cadboro-Gyro, Cuthbert Holmes, Gorge Waterway, Lambrick, PKOLS (Mount Douglas), Mount Tolmie, and Playfair Parks)
  • Golf Course
  • Beaches
