Saanich, BC – For the eighth consecutive year, Saanich’s Finance Department has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2016 budget document. 

The award represents a significant achievement for Saanich. It reflects the commitment of Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North American. 

To achieve this award, the budget must meet nationally recognized guidelines that assess how well Saanich’s budget serves as: 

• a policy document
• a financial plan
• an operational guide
• a communications tool 

The GFOA is a major professional association, servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial level government officials and other finance practitioners. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program for governmental budgeting.
