Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer, the Youth Leader will provide direct supervision to Program Assistants and participants in youth programs.  These programs are currently offered at the following recreation centres: Upside at Saanich Commonwealth Place, Flipside at G.R. Pearkes and Backdoor at Gordon Head Teen Centres.  Successful candidates will be responsible for planning and supervising relevant activities in a variety of programs for youth.  This also involves ensuring the safety and well being of participants and communicating and working cooperatively with participants, parents, coordinators and supervisors. Requirements include completion of Grade 10, three months experience in working with children in a recreational setting, Emergency First-Aid and CPR Level C, satisfactory police information check and valid Class 4 Driver’s Licence, as required.

Gordon Head Recreation Centre is seeking certified Aquatic Instructors who will be responsible for lesson management for Canadian Red Cross Water Safety programs.  This includes planning and preparing assigned programs; instructing assigned classes; evaluating participants; record keeping and public relations. The successful candidates will also ensure participants are taught according to safety and skill standards outlined by Saanich and Aquatic agencies.  Requirements include completion of Grade 10; current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Award; eligibility to obtain the Current Life Saving Society Canada Instructor Award or equivalent; over three months, up to and including six months experience and a satisfactory police information check.
