Thank you to those residents who took the time to provide additional comments on the proposed playground at Reynolds Park. We received some positive feedback that improved the final design. We unfortunately cannot accommodate all requests due to budget and site constraints.
The playground replacement project includes new play equipment with accessible ramps into the playground areas and accessible wood chip safety surfacing. Natural play features include a grassy tunnel with logs, stumps and boulders for circuit play. Additional park improvements include drainage, pathway upgrades, a water fountain/bottle filler, new park furniture and tree planting. Check out the playground concept [PDF - 397 KB]!
We will close off the playground area during construction. We estimate that the project will start during the last two weeks of August to accommodate the Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Program (which runs from July into August). The playground work should be complete in late fall.
This neighbourhood park features soccer, Lakehill Lawn Bowling, tennis courts, asphalt pathways, a sportcourt and an old playground. Our Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Program (SNPP) runs camps here each summer. Reynolds Park [PDF - 172 KB] is off of Reynolds Road with some angled parking along Laselle Street. You can find the main parking lot with a rain garden off Prestwood Drive.
Saanich Parks is planning to replace the playground at Reynolds Park in 2019. The existing play equipment is from 1999 and is due for upgrading based on playground replacement criteria. The assessment includes age, condition, safety/design issues, accessibility, drainage and location.
This project is focusing on the play equipment. The budget available does not extend to other areas in the park.
