 Notice of Nomination

Public Notice is given to the electors of the District of Saanich that the Chief Election Officer will be receiving nominations for the following Saanich Municipal Council offices:

 Public Notice is given to the electors of School District No. 63 (Saanich) in the Trustee Electoral Area of the District of Saanich, the Juan De Fuca Electoral Area (Willis Point), and the District of Highlands (Durrance Lake Road) that the Chief Election Officer will be receiving nominations for the following Saanich School Board office:

Nominations for Municipal Council and School Trustee offices will be received by the Chief Election Officer or designated person, during the Nomination Period only as follows:

Nomination Period:

From 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022

To 4 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022

Excluding statutory holidays and weekends

 

Originals of faxed and emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:30 p.m., on Friday, September 16, 2022.

 Nomination documents are available at the District of Saanich, Legislative Services Division during regular office hours (8:30 am to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays) through the Nomination Period (August 30, 2022, at 9 a.m. to September 9, 2022, at 4 p.m.). An electronic copy of the nomination documents is also available upon request by email to: elections@saanich.ca

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE:

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government or as a School Trustee if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on general voting date (Saturday, October 15, 2022);
  • Resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately preceding the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • Not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or to be otherwise disqualified by law.
  • A person or the commander of an armed forces unit who has been granted freedom of the municipality, if that person is a Canadian citizen (for Municipal Council offices only).

 Other important information:

  • You do not need to live in the jurisdiction in which you are running.
  • You must be nominated by ten (10) qualified District of Saanich electors to run for the office of Mayor or Councillor.
  • You must be nominated by two (2) qualified District of Saanich electors to run for office of School Trustee.

 CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS:

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2022 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

Mayor

Councillor

$40,991.70

School Board Trustee (School District No. 63 – Trustee Election Area 4)

$10,981.20

 

THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS:

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2022 general local election, the following third-party advertising limits apply:

Mayor and Councillor

$4,044.35

School Board Trustee (School District No. 63 – Trustee Election Area 4)

$809.84
