The Occupational Health and Safety Assistant is responsible for general OHS reception and front-line service to all Saanich employees and the public and provides general clerical and administrative support for the Occupational Health and Safety Division. 

The successful candidate will develop, maintain, and monitor filing and electronic database systems for a variety of financial, administrative, and OHS records ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC, Certificate of Recognition and Saanich standards as well as supporting corporate health and safety committees. The OHS Assistant is responsible for the administration of both division and corporate wide records of safety training and other safety activities, injury records, incident and accident investigations, WorkSafeBC claim files and WHMIS-related information.  The OHS Assistant manages OHS training and other safety related activities including booking venues, coordinating contractors and overseeing the registration process.

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented with one year post-secondary courses in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, web development, and medical terminology course or equivalent understanding of terminology.  One year experience in an office environment including experience as a committee secretary; keyboarding speed of 50 wpm; and a valid class 5 BC Driver’s licence. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week).
