The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced operational Manager to lead its Street Operations Section. This section is responsible for the delivery of above ground road infrastructure related maintenance, operations, construction and related programs. The Manager is accountable for the provision of effective leadership, advice and support as it relates to Municipal street operations matters.
The Manager will lead multi-disciplinary operations teams of certified trades and skilled workers to ensure maximum performance of the assets, establish and follow protocols to minimize public health risks, and conduct cost effective management of the municipal assets. Emphasis is on the planning, directing and coordinating multiple operational teams of the various stages of maintenance and construction to ensure the efficient use of staff, equipment and materials.
The successful candidate will have working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as applied in construction and maintenance of municipal street operations assets, snow and ice removal, traffic signals and road markings. They will be adept with Work Safe BC regulations applicable to employees and equipment working on a maintenance and construction sites and will possess technical knowledge and experience in the principles, methods and procedures applicable to construction and maintenance of street operations infrastructure. They will have a collaborative approach to leadership with a commitment to lifelong learning, organizational excellence, and knowledge development and have demonstrated ability to lead and supervise employees in a unionized environment.
As a qualified candidate you will hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field; eligibility for registration as a Technologist with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC); six years of progressive managerial or supervisory and administrative experience in maintenance, construction and operations of municipal road networks and above ground assets; a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence along with a personal vehicle available for use as and when required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week).
