Saanich, the largest municipality on southern Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 km of trails. The Parks Division is seeking an Irrigation Technician II to join our successful Irrigation team to support turf, horticulture and urban forestry.

As the Irrigation Technician II, you will perform daily on-site work to excavate, install, repair and maintain underground irrigation systems, sprinkler heads, drip irrigation, valves and other watering devices. You will program and adjust watering schedules with various irrigation controllers; assist with water audits and maintain computerized irrigation systems, including radio or telephone communication equipment. You will also operate and perform routine service maintenance on a wide range of manual and motorized tools and equipment pertinent to irrigation while providing direction and training to other staff as required.

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; BC WWA certification in Cross Connection Control; Irrigation Industry Association of BC Certified Irrigation Technician Level 2; other irrigation industry related courses (auditing, electrical troubleshooting, design, scheduling, controls); two years of progressive experience in irrigation, preferably in a municipal setting and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. summer and 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. winter (40 hours per week) and be able to work in all types of weather.
