Saanich, the largest municipality on southern Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 km of trails. The Parks Division is seeking up to two Irrigation Technician I’s to perform technical work in the application of industry practices related to the field of irrigation in support of turf, horticulture and urban forestry infrastructure.
The Irrigation Technician I performs daily on-site work in excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of underground irrigation systems, sprinkler heads, drip irrigation, valves and other watering devices; programs and adjusts watering schedules with various irrigation controllers; operates and performs routine service maintenance on a wide range of manual and motorized tools and equipment; and maintains and submits irrigation and plumbing work related records electronically and manually. The successful candidate will also assist the Irrigation Technician II with: repairs and maintenance of plumbing fixtures in Parks buildings, testing and maintaining backflow prevention devices and training to other staff.
Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; Irrigation Industry Association of BC Certified Irrigation Technician Level 1; one year of previous experience in irrigation, preferably in a municipal setting and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience.
