The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced civil engineering technologist to join our Engineering Department. The Water Resources Division provides engineering services for the management of Saanich’s sanitary sewer, water and storm drainage systems including infrastructure planning and capacity analysis, capital replacement design and construction, and operational technical support. The successful candidate will work in the infrastructure design & construction section; a technical team that delivers the Division capital renewal program.
The work of the Engineering Technician IV involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including project scoping, managing the design and delivery of engineering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion as the internal project manager overseeing a team of consultants; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal construction crews; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record regarding design changes; and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will possess a sound technical foundation, strong project management skills, is well organized, and has strong communication skills.
Requirements include a two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; is eligible for registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; possesses a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License; has a personal vehicle available for use as and when required, and is conversant with computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a university degree in a relevant field of engineering with a minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience and registered with Engineering and Geoscientists of BC. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
