The District of Saanich is seeking multiple Assistant Utility Operators for hands on physical work assisting the Utility Operators with the installation and repair of the Water systems. The successful candidates will assist with live tapping of watermains as well as assist with work on the potable water systems. Assistant Utility Operators understand and follow best management practices to maintain water quality. This work requires versatility, heavy lifting, and manual dexterity.
Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP O.I.T. (Operator in Training) Certification for Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution is an asset; six months of pipefitting experience in creeks and waterways and wastewater systems; Traffic Control Certificate; Occupational First Aid Level I Certification; valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement; annual renewal for Driver’s Abstract; versatility and manual dexterity are required; and must work in close proximity or in actual contact with raw sewage and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work in all types of weather. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
