INTERURBAN - WILKINSON CONCEPT

ROY AND DUNSTERVILLE INTERSECTION CONCEPTS

Saanich is currently reviewing some key items that were voiced at the latest community meetings.  These include: a review of time restricted closure of Hastings through and left approach; construction phasing to leave some items unconstructed until necessary (if at all), review how large vehicles will get through the detour routes (dump trucks with trailers (60ft long), trucks with horse trailers, etc).   Decisions will be made by the end of the month and they will be posted here as well as sent to the Community Association and residents via representatives.   For any further information please contact Paul Butterfield at Paul.Butterfield@saanich.ca or 250-475-5494 ext 3439.

The District of Saanich and their consultant, Bunt & Associates Engineering, made the following presentation:

Presentation Boards

The following image indicates where we may require improvements or other restrictions to ensure short cut traffic stays on major roads and local streets can handle the local traffic shift.

OVERVIEW

The following options were offered:

OPTION 1:  No left turn from Hastings

OPTION 2:  Hastings cul-de-sac

OPTION 3:  Expanded right turns from Option 1

Wilkinson-Interurban Intersection
(November 2009 Update)

After the Public Information Session, the consultant, Bunt & Associates, reviewed the detailed comments received from the general public.  It was felt that in the best interests of Saanich the scope of the project should be widened to include additional elements of Strawberry Vale to create a holistic Traffic Management Plan in addition to the Intersection Design for Interurban-Wilkinson-Hastings.

Subsequent to this scope change, Bunt & Associates have modified their recommendations and submitted a Final Report on December 1st, 2009 that we have now released to the general public.  The Appendices are large and not included in this web presentation of the report.  Should you wish to view them, or desire a copy, one can be obtained through the Engineering Department subject to appropriate photocopying costs.
