DRAFT URBAN FOREST STRATEGY

The Urban Forest Strategy is one of the tools that Council, the community and staff willbe able to use in conjunction with the Sustainable Saanich Official Community Plan 2008 (OCP), Strategic Plan 2009, other city bylaws, plans and policies. It provides a long–term plan for achieving a sustainable urban forest in Saanich.

BAXTER PARK - TREES FOR TOMORROW

In March 2009, the District of Saanich received a grant of $31,000 from the Ministry of Community and Rural Development through the Trees for Tomorrow and BC150 Grove programs to purchase 150 native trees and more than 1900 native shrubs to plant as demonstration forests in Baxter Park.  Read more about this project.

GARLIC MUSTARD

URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT STRATEGY

Saanich Parks is launching an Urban Forest Strategy process. Over the next two months a consultant will be engaging staff, Council Committees, Neighbourhood Associations and the public, seeking their input on the Urban Forest.
