Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich Parks and Recreation Department wants to understand the growing and changing demands of the community and is reaching out to the public for inspiration and input.

Recreation, health and wellness services are essential to support a healthy and thriving community. Through a market analysis, Saanich will evaluate its current programs, activities and services then develop a 10-year road map for Parks and Recreation.

“We need to understand and respond to demographic changes and recreation and social trends to meet the expectations of our residents,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Suzanne Samborski. “This market analysis will give us a better understanding of future demand, opportunities and potential partnerships.”

The public can provide input on the Parks and Recreation market analysis by visiting an open house or participating in an online and/or telephone survey.

The Parks and Recreation road map will include recommendations for:

  • Saanich Parks and Recreation’s role in creating a healthy and thriving community;
  • Priorities for programming and facility redevelopment;
  • Operational changes to improve service delivery and effectiveness; and
  • Saanich Parks and Recreation’s business model.

The market analysis will also establish a decision-making framework to help determine how the Parks and Recreation Department will respond to new and future opportunities.

Saanich is the largest municipality in the Capital Regional District with a population exceeding 115,000. Saanich operates four community recreation centres, a golf course and more than 170 parks. These amenities service Saanich residents, people who live elsewhere in the CRD and visitors to the region.
