Saanich recognizes environmental leaders: call for nominations

Saanich, BC – Councillor Leif Wergeland, Chair of the Saanich Environment and Natural Areas Advisory Committee, is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2017 Saanich Environmental Awards are now being accepted. Nominations will be considered in the following categories:

  • individual citizen
  • volunteer organization
  • business
  • youth                                
  • biodiversity conservation
  • long term environmental achievement
  • sustainability 

“Saanich appreciates the community's assistance in submitting nominations for the 18th year of the Saanich Environmental Awards,” said Councillor Wergeland. “This is a great opportunity to recognize valuable projects and the outstanding stewards who work hard to protect the environment.” 

Past award winners have been honoured for their efforts in environmental stewardship and conservation, as well as leadership and sustainability. Winners have been involved in projects such as invasive species removal, environmental education, native plant propagation, waste reduction and conservation on private property. Business awards have been given for sustainable developments and energy efficiency programs, among others.

The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. The 2017 Saanich Environmental Awards will be presented in June in the Saanich Council Chambers, 770 Vernon Avenue.
