Saanich promotes active transportation by opening new cycle track
June 28, 2017
For Immediate Release
Saanich, BC – In an effort to further promote and support active transportation, the District of Saanich will be opening the Borden Street two-way cycle track today.
This project provides an important cycling connection between the two entrances of the Lochside Trail: Mckenzie Avenue at Borden Street to Lochside Drive at Cedar Hill X Road. The improvements create a network that is suitable for users of all ages and all abilities - a welcome addition to Saanich’s current cycling infrastructure.
Transit vehicles and motorists have also been considered as part of the implementation of this project. Traffic signals on McKenzie Avenue between Nelthorpe Street and Borden Street have been synchronized to allow for more efficient vehicle flow in this area.
- A protected two-way cycle track and a safer bike crossing route at the Mckenzie Ave and Borden Street intersection.
- Enhanced street markings and safety signs have been incorporated into the design to protect cyclists and pedestrians who are crossing at the intersection.
