Saanich is looking for more input on walking and biking

January 23, 2017

For Immediate Release

The District of Saanich is extending the deadline on the Moving Saanich Forward online survey to provide more residents the chance to voice their opinion on the future of walking and biking in Saanich. Due to the success of the survey and amount of input received so far, we have extended the survey deadline by one week.

Transportation is a topic which affects all residents, making it important to hear from as many people as possible. Extending the survey deadline will allow the Moving Saanich Forward team to hear from more residents, no matter how they choose to move around today.

“In order to really understand what the barriers are to active transportation, we want to hear from all residents,” says Harley Machielse, Director of Engineering. “Using the input from this survey we can begin to explore what we can to at the District to make active forms of transportation a more accessible and attractive choice for residents.”

Since the survey launch in December, 2016, more than 750 residents have shared their views on why active transportation is important and what would encourage them to walk and bike more often.

The results of the Moving Saanich Forward survey will be used to develop a vision for active transportation in Saanich, which will guide the ultimate plan.

Background
Through the Moving Saanich Forward initiative, Saanich is developing a plan to guide the development of safe, attractive and convenient active transportation options for people of all ages and abilities over the next 30 years. The final active transportation plan will include policies and actions that will guide investments in active transportation infrastructure and support programs over the short and long term for residents of all ages and abilities.
