Saanich Fire Supports Interior Wildfire Efforts
On July 7, 2017 the Minister responsible for Emergency Management B.C. declared a provincial state of emergency to ensure a coordinated response to the current wildfire situation and to ensure public safety. The Office of the Fire Commissioner, in cooperation with the B.C. Wildfire Service and Fire Chief’s Association of B.C., has made a province-wide request for all available resources to assist with drastic wildfire conditions across B.C.
In response to the call for assistance from the Province, Saanich Fire Department fire fighters deployed to the Williams Lake area in July and August to assist with firefighting and structural protection efforts. Saanich fire fighters have now returned to Victoria to their regular duties.
Saanich also sent crews and support during the Kelowna wildfire in 2003.
